The Suffolk County Police Athletic League is one of the largest and most successful juvenile crime prevention and recreational programs in the country. This year PAL will celebrate its 30th anniversary.

Suffolk County PAL realizes that every child is unique in ability and interests so we have tried to offer as many activities as possible. Some of the programs we offer include baseball, basketball, football, hockey, boxing, cheerleading, golf, soccer, twirling, lacrosse, track and field, fishing trips, karate and our most recent, The Ident-A-Kid program. We also have a "mentoring program" for children at risk. PAL also offers many different camps and clinics for children during the summer.

In 2003 PAL touched the lives of over 26,000 boys and girls, many who would have no organized sports in their lives without PAL.

The Suffolk County PAL basketball program began many years ago in the early 1970's under the direction of Police Officers' Tom Reilly, Kenny Bettenhouser and Paul Rafflet. At that time the program was located in Longwood, N.Y. and the league consisted of about twenty teams in Suffolk.

Today the program is now better known as the Suffolk Countywide Basketball League (SCBL) with over 40 teams throughout Suffolk County.

AYSO is a nationwide non-profit organization that develops and delivers quality youth soccer programs in a fun, family environment based on AYSO's Five Philosophies:

  1. Everyone Plays:
Our program’s goal is for kids to play soccer—so we mandate that every player on every team must play at least half of every game.
  2. Balanced Teams:
Each year we form new teams as evenly balanced as possible—because it is fair and more fun when teams of equal ability play.
  3. Open Registration:
Our program is open to all children between 4-1/2 and 19 years of age who want to register and play soccer. Interest and enthusiasm are the only criteria for playing.
  4. Positive Coaching:
Encouragement of player effort provides for greater enjoyment by the players and ultimately leads to better-skilled and better-motivated players.
  5. Good Sportsmanship:
We strive to create a positive environment based on mutual respect rather than a win-at-all-costs attitude, and our program is designed to instill good sportsmanship in every facet of AYSO.

USA Wrestling is the National Governing Body for the Sport of Wrestling in the United States and, as such, is its representative to the United States Olympic Committee. Simply, USA Wrestling is the central organization that coordinates amateur wrestling programs in the nation and works to create interest and participation in these programs.

It is not the wild, or "off the top rope", stuff you might have seen on television. The many programs and activities conducted by USA Wrestling or the hundreds of chartered clubs, provide opportunities for youth and adults alike to gain an understanding and appreciation for the international styles of wrestling, Freestyle and Greco-Roman, and folkstyle (scholastic and collegiate) which is the style practiced at high schools and colleges across the country.

USA Wrestling has more than 159,000 members. These members include athletes of all ages, coaches, officials, parents and fans striving together to strengthen the sport. Part of USA Wrestlingís mission is to foster grassroots development for the sport.

Each year, USA Wrestling charters over 2900 wrestling clubs and sanctions over 1600 local, state, regional and national competitions. These opportunities and more are just a small part of the exciting world of USA Wrestling.
